Canon Powershot G10 Recall

May 1 2009 by Kerry Kobashi

Just when I was going to buy a brand new Canon Powershot G10 this weekend along comes a recall notice.

Now imagine taking a picture and all of a sudden seeing a horizontal streak that appears on your images. I could imagine how frustrating this could be for Powershot G10 users especially when they appear randomly!

Canon Powershot G10 Technical Problems

According to Canon, not all of the G10's have this problem - only those with certain serial numbers.

if there is a marking on the lens side inside the battery cover like the one in the image below, the issue has already been corrected, and you may continue to use your camera as is with no further action required.

In addition, the Powershot G10 also has another problem requiring a firmware update. When RAW pictures are taken at ISO 1600 a magenta image occurs. This problem too occurs under G10's that have a certain serial number.

Before You Purchase A Camera Check Out Its History

Moral to this story is that before you go buy an expensive camera, go check out the vendors technical support area to see if they have any product issues. If you don't, the pictures you are taking that come out with problems could very well be the camera itself, and not to your doing.
